The Milano Episodes – a prologue

1 02 2012

I am making another attempt at blogging. It’s crazy, during the MBA I was so busy (or so it seemed at times at least) but now back in working life I can not seem to find the peace to write some coherent thoughts or post some pics.
Well maybe my new circumstances can remedy this. As a new role is demanding more time in Milano my wonderful firm has decided to give me an apartment there instead of paying hotel rooms, thus ending my aspiring career on TripAdvisor (I think I made it to “Senior Reviewer”, fantastic! Some thousand people have read one of my 12 or so reviews buy I only got two “useful” votes. Vote for me, my nick there is vela71! God bless!).
So here we go – in the fantastic modern world of mobile devices I downloaded the WordPress app and am blogging from seat 12A of an Air Dolomiti (the swype dictionary of my Android suggested “slutty”, because it hadn’t heard of the beautiful Dolomiti) Embraer (Android: “rubbery”) plane from Munich to Milan.

The app even has a built in “make a picture” function (Android: “suction”, but ok, I screwed up the swiping a bit) which is kind of cool. So instead of a travel blog reporting about my attempts to find beauty in this world I am giving myself the new mission to write the Milano episodes while business travelling. Or to write about the beauty of business travel while in Milano. Well, who fucking (Android: “ducking” -what the hell is that supposed to mean?) knows what tomorrow will bring anyway?

FIAT – Fix It Again Tomorrow

21 11 2008

Nostalgia is coming (parking) my way! I took this picture yesterday with the camera of my phone just outside my student residence.

Does any one of you remember this -ehm- car?!

WIKIPEDIA says about it: “Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Panda was designed as a modern day “peasant car”: A cheap, basic, no-frills utility vehicle that would be easy to use and maintain.”

I remember the harlem-style ignition, engine problems on the highway, a brake fade-out after going down the Velebit mountains (Dominik, Helga – my great respect for taking this trip with me!) and of course a legendary 5-person-plus-luggage weekend trip from Graz to Grado, going up in second gear the highway from Graz to Klagenfurt.

Obviously it is still possible to drive those here in Italy… 😉

Anyway, I looked at it more closely and it had all the features I so vividly remember from “mine”…

Ein Kommentar zu einer Finanzkrise

31 10 2008

I received this from my aunt (Thank You!) – had to post it! Make sure you read it to the very end!!

UPDATE: It’s a fake. (Click here!)

Wenn die Börsenkurse fallen,
regt sich Kummer fast bei allen,
aber manche blühen auf:
Ihr Rezept heißt Leerverkauf.

Keck verhökern diese Knaben
Dinge, die sie gar nicht haben,
treten selbst den Absturz los,
den sie brauchen – echt famos!

Leichter noch bei solchen Taten
tun sie sich mit Derivaten:
Wenn Papier den Wert frisiert,
wird die Wirkung potenziert.

Wenn in Folge Banken krachen,
haben Sparer nichts zu lachen,
und die Hypothek aufs Haus
heißt, Bewohner müssen raus.

Trifft’s hingegen große Banken,
kommt die ganze Welt ins Wanken –
auch die Spekulantenbrut
zittert jetzt um Hab und Gut!

Soll man das System gefährden?
Da muss eingeschritten werden:
Der Gewinn, der bleibt privat,
die Verluste kauft der Staat.

Dazu braucht der Staat Kredite,
und das bringt erneut Profite,
hat man doch in jenem Land
die Regierung in der Hand.

Für die Zechen dieser Frechen
hat der Kleine Mann zu blechen
und – das ist das Feine ja –
nicht nur in Amerika!

Und wenn Kurse wieder steigen,
fängt von vorne an der Reigen –
ist halt Umverteilung pur,
stets in eine Richtung nur.

Aber sollten sich die Massen
das mal nimmer bieten lassen,
ist der Ausweg längst bedacht:
Dann wird bisschen Krieg gemacht.

Playing LEGO!

13 10 2008

As all of you seminar-experienced people out there know, there are many different ways to team up a new group and facilitate people getting to know each other, most of them include some kind of playing…

Our MBA program designers opted for

LEGO - Like in the old days

(A short but informative article also on german wikipedia.)

So there we were in the afternoon, building structures and interpreting them to the class. And another full day of this is to follow tomorrow…
